Non-fungible tokens, better known as NFTs, have been extremely controversial not only online but with various manga and anime creators. While Shonen Jump — an imprint of Shueisha Inc. — has specifically gone out of their way to decry them on social media, other companies have decided to try and embrace them despite themany anime-related scams they have been involved in already.

Several anime inspired by NFTs are now in the works by a variety of studios. As the popularity of NFTs rapidly declines, it is possible that these may be canceled in the future, but only time can tell. With

Otaku Coin - AnimeLoot

One of the first projects to attempt to combine cryptocurrency with anime was Otaku Coin. The project titled AnimeLoot claims to be “an experimental bottom-up anime project” that is set to be funded by the release of NFTs as well crypto. The project’s direction “will gradually take place as the project moves on” meaning there are few details on it so far despite several assets being released.

While it seems that the characters that were purchased may be featured in the eventual show — if it ever exists — there is little proof to show the creators behind Otaku Coin have enough experience to actually produce an anime. No studio has currently been announced to be working on the project either, though it still is getting semi-consistent updates with arton Twitter. The only real information on what the show is to become is that it is set to bean isekai anime.

Anime CryptoNinja NFT

Fanworks - CryptoNinja Anime

Anime studio Fanworks announced on July 02, 2025, that it would be collaborating with CryptoNinja to create an anime. Tokyo Otaku Mode, a company known for selling anime figurines and other merchandise, is also working on the project. At the time of the announcement, CryptoNinja was the most active NFT project in Japan.

Interestingly, Tokyo Otaku Mode does have connections with Otaku Coin as they allow it to be exchanged for purchases on their website. As both groups are now working on separate anime NFT projects, it will be interesting to see if the two butt heads against each other in the future. There is currently no other information about what the show will be like outside of Fanworks hoping it will be a full-blown series andnot just an OVA.

Toei Animation - Zombie Zoo

A nine-year-old artist created the Zombie Zoo NFTs and likely could have never expected that an anime giant like Toei Animation would try to turn it into an anime. The company stated that they “started this project because we wanted to support and create animations that reflect children’s creativity as it is.”

The artist behind the pixel NFTs, known only as Zombie Zoo Keeper, has been selling them with the help of his mother online. He was named on the 2021 Forbes JAPAN 100 list which is a testament to just how popular his project has become with those into non-fungible tokens in Japan. Even celebrities like DJ Steve Aoki have purchased one of the NFTs in the Zombie Zoo collection.

Crypto Alien Babes

With the many scams and rug pulls behind NFTs as well asToei Animation recently being hacked, there may be some safety concerns for the company regarding the project now. At the time it was announced, they stated they wanted to “[partner] with creators to develop animation franchises based off of NFT artwork.” This seems to imply they want to do this for multiple projects going forward, so there may be more announcements from Toei in the future.

There is currently no word on what the anime will be about or if it will have NFT integration in any way, just that it will somehow feature the characters and concepts created by Zombie Zoo Keeper.

Crypto Alien Babes

Crypto Alien Babes claims to be “the world’s 1st original anime NFT series.” They plan to release short episodes every 12-16 weeks while minting them that feature various NFTs involved in their project. Their first episode “Loyal Doge” is set to release on June 14, 2025, alongside 333 non-fungible tokens featuring the main character of the episode.

The episode is supposedly 8 minutes long and features Japanese voice talent with English subtitles. It is supposed to have elements ofSailor Moonalongside the Doge meme many online know well. Many NFTs and cryptocurrency projects attempt to use popular memes to help, push their products, so it comes as little surprise that Crypto Alien Babes might attempt to do the same.
