Summary
Baldur’s Gate 3is an incredible game that has introduced the player to many fascinating characters, some of whom can join the player as a companion eventually. There’s a good variety of different classes and personalities, but not all characters are as obvious to find.
One such companion is Minthara. Her character has fascinated many and her strength is quite impressive too, as she’s a Paladin, one of the best classes in the game combining both strength and charisma. Here’s how to make the best build for Minthara.

Updated on July 08, 2025, by Rei Penber:Without moving into multiclassing, Minthara’s build has been streamlined a bit with this update. A level-by-level guide has been added, along with a few additional pieces of gear that are beneficial to Paladins in general. This updated version also takes into account Honour Mode, a much more difficult version of the game, so a cleaner version of her stat distribution has been added, though her starting values are already quite good.Herdefault class is the Paladin; she can be quite useful and versatile, even though recruiting her might be a moral dilemma for some players. Even if the player never recruited her in their first playthrough, they should definitely give her a try if they ever replay the game.
Who Is Minthara And Where To Recruit Her
Minthara, unlike most of the other possible companions the player meets, is not an origin character. This means the player cannot play as her from the get-go and can only hope she can join them as an ally.Minthara is a character that can either turn into an ally or be foughtas an enemy boss, depending on the player’s choices in the game.
She is found in the Shattered Sanctum, inside the Goblin Camp as one of the three Goblin Leaders. If the player helps her raid the Grove, this could lead to some other companions possibly leaving the player’s party. The player must, however, wait for Act 2, to officially recruit her after they rescue her from the Moonrise Towers.

It’s also possible to recruit Minthara in Act 2 without raiding the Grove. Simply ensure that the last hit during the fight against her is a non-lethal one and knocks her unconscious. This will still complete the quest to take down the Goblin Camp leaders. Minthara will then appear in Act 2 in Moonrise Towers as usual and needs to be rescued.
Default Minthara
“Yes. My House trained me to be a soldier in Lolth’s service, and my mother showed me how to survive the perils of society. She taught me to be resilient and to guard my heart from those who cannot be trusted. Literally and figuratively.”
Minthara stands out as quite an interesting characterinBG3, and one of the biggest reasons for that is that she’s quite powerful from the get-go. She belongs to the Drow race, specifically a Lolth-Sworn Drow. When it comes to her class, she’s a Paladin, which is arguably one of the very best classes in the game. Coupled with that, her background is the Noble. This gives her proficiencies in History and Persuasion. She also possesses proficiencies in Athletics, Intimidation, and Perception.

When it comes to her abilities, here’s how Minthara scores across the board. Given that Minthara becomes a companion so late in the game in Act 2, it’s unlikely she will be the party face, so there’s no need to rebalance her stats too much. Allocating one extra point from DEX or CON to Charisma might be the only improvement needed here.

Best Multiclass for Minthara
Minthara is a powerful character that the player can make use of. As is known, her typical class is that of the Paladin, and it works great for her character. However, the player is able to try to Multiclass her to make her more versatile and diverse. Here’s a Multiclass build the player can explore.
For this Multiclass build, the player will make use of three BG3 classes, notably, the Paladin, the Rogue, and the Cleric.
To start off, the player should leave Minthara as a Paladin for her first level. With that, she would acquire Lay On Hands, a great starter healing spell, Divine Senses, as well as Channel Oath Charges. Here, the player also has to pick which Oath Minthara will have. Between the Oath of Ancients, Oath of Devotion, and Oath of Vengeance, the player should pick the last one. With this, the player will have to follow the tenements of the Oath of Vengeance and will acquire the Inquisitor’s might.
Continuing, Minthara should stay a Paladin on level 2 as well. She will unlock level 1 of Paladin Spellcasting, as well as one of the best Paladin actions, Divine Smite. She will also get to pick a fighting style, with the options being between defense, dueling, great weapon fighting, and protection. Great weapon fighting will be her best option here.
Now at level 3, still as a Paladin, Minthara will unlock Divine Health, as well as a subclass feature, Abjure Enemy, Vow of Enemy, Bane, and Hunter’s Mark. These will all allow Minthara to take the advantage against her enemies in their own way, such as frightening them or allowing Minthara to deal extra damage.
Now at level 4 as a Paladin, Minthara has additional chargesfor Lay On Hands and can choose a feat. A great option for her is Savage Attacker, which allows her to roll her dice twice and use the highest result when attacking.
At level 5, still as a Paladin, she will unlock level 2 of Paladin spellcasting, as well as Extra Attack, which, as the name implies, grants her the ability to attack one more time. From her subclass, she gets some interesting spells, the most notable being Hold Person, which allows her to trap an enemy and render them useless for a few turns. She also gets Misty Step.
For now, her last level with the Paladin class will be level 6. At this level, she gets Aura of Protection. This allows her and her nearby allies to have a bonus on saving throws, relative to their charisma modifier.
Now, Minthara will switch classes to the Cleric class. On her first level as a Cleric, she has to pick her Cleric subclass, her Domain. Here, the player should go with the War Domain. When it comes to choosing a deity, it is up to the player, as it mostly impacts the game through dialogue options. Upon choosing the War Domain subclass, she will unlock two domain spells, Divine Favour and Shield of Faith. She can also use heavy armor and martial weapons in this subclass. The most interesting thing she unlocks, however, is known as War Priest. This can allow her to spend a war priest charge to make an extra attack.
Following this, Minthara should stay a War Cleric, making her now a Paladin 6 - Cleric 2 character. Here, she will get Channel Divinity charges, Turn Undead, as well as Guided Strike.
With that, the player will now switch her over to Rogue, making her a Paladin 6 - Cleric 2 - Rogue 1. Upon entering the Rogue Class, she will unlock Sneak Attack, both ranged and melee.
At level 2 of being a Rogue, making her a Paladin 6 - Cleric 2 - Rogue 2 character, she will unlock Cunning Attack, which includes hide, dash, and disengage.
Now, at level 3 of the Rogue Class, making her Paladin 6 - Cleric 2 - Rogue 3, she will be able to pick a Rogue subclass. This can be one of three options: the Thief, the Arcane Trickster, or the Assassin. Out of these, the ideal one is the Thief. This will unlock Fast Hands, which gives an additional bonus action, as well as second story work, which grants resistance to fall damage.
Finally, the player can switch her back to Paladin, finishing with Paladin 7 - Rogue 3 - Cleric 2. Upon reaching level 7 of the Paladin class, she will unlock Relentless Avenger, which increases her movement speed by 4.5m on the next turn after hitting an enemy with an opportunity attack.
Note: the player could also switch her back to a War Cleric and unlock Magic Weapon and Spiritual Weapon. The first allows her to infuse her weapon with magic, and the second allows her to summon a magical weapon that fights on her side.
