Summary
OneDiablo 4player reveals an interesting strategy for dealing with The Butcher while playing solo, using nearby mobs to provide some assistance. After appearing in nearly every game in the franchise, a fearsome sub boss known as The Butcher made its return inDiablo 4, though with a terrifying twist this time around. Instead of occupying a static location,Diablo 4turns The Butcher into a RNG monster, terrorizing unsuspecting players seemingly at random while exploring the various dungeons within the game.
It’s this random element that makes The Butcher much tougher to deal with as players can never really prepare to encounter it. As such, manyDiablo 4runs have come to a swift end due to encountering The Butcher, leaving many players to attempt to discover cheese spots to make the fight a bit easier and managable. Numerous strategies have surfaced over the past weeks and months, including aDiablo 4Necromancer trapping the Butcher against a wallwith skeletal minions, essentially preventing the enemy from being able to turn around to fight back. However, others have come up with viable tactics that don’t involve level geometry.

The latest advice comes from aDiablo 4subReddit user named BlastingFonda, who recently took on a level 96 Butcher within a Nightmare Dungeon. For players who are playing solo and may not have the melee chops needed to go head-to-head, BlastingFonda accidentally discovered a strategy that worked out fairly well by running into the undiscovered parts of the map to trigger additional enemy mobs to join in. While this may seem like a bad idea, Blasting Fonda discovered that as they put more distance between themselves and the Butcher, the mobs also started attacking it, eventually cutting down a third of its overall health and making the fight slightly easier in the end.
Others in the comments chimed in with variations on this strategy, including many Necromancer mains who used the mob strategy to unleash a massive corpse explosion which took the Butcher out quickly. AnotherDiablo 4player named MadManNico offered a few additional tips they found helpful includingsaving shrines to use after the Butcher fight is triggeredas well as saving elite enemies for additional health pickups. For players who can get 150% movement speed, The Butcher can be permanently kited through the level, or used as a way to continuously circle around the boss.
The Butcher continues to be a thorn in the side for many players, though many have started picking up on a few subtle cluesBlizzard may have added to hint at a possible encounter. While inside a dungeon and approaching a closed door, players should listen to the music as it will start to pick up and become more intense. Walking away from the door, the music will start to deescalate, which indicates a big fight, likely with The Butcher, is about to happen when the door is opened.
Diablo 4is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
